Letter: Discipline a must in raising children
Wednesday, May 5, 1999 | 12:02 p.m.
However, despite numerous interventions and discussions about my 16-year-old daughter's behavior, she continued to be disrespectful and verbally abusive. She refused counseling, restriction, going elsewhere to live; you name it, I tried it. The last time she snuck out of the house I had had enough.
I met her at the door and pushed her out of it. She went to the police, I went to jail. I have never been arrested before, I've not even had a speeding ticket in 20 years. I obey the laws. I don't drink or do drugs. I coach my kid's sports. I am a single mother. Yet I went to jail.
If it can happen to me, it can happen to any parent. The children of today have no fear of adults. This is what happens when we take the discipline out of the hands of parents and school authorities. This ... and Littleton, Colo.
