Letter: Children’s safety not just matter for school officials
Wednesday, May 5, 1999 | 11:59 a.m.
It's the same people everyday. They double-park in front of the teacher's cars and refuse to stay out of the red zones. I would be so happy to see the parking lot closed so these lazy parents would get out of their vehicles and pick up their children so they would be safe.
I have seen parents speed into the parking lots because they were late and block traffic just because it is an inconvenience to them to have to get out of their car.
Also, traffic safety is taught at the schools, but it begins in the home. All schools have at least one or two streets alongside them 60 seconds from the door. We, as well as the school, are responsible for our children's safety. I am sure it wasn't a school official who hit the child, just a parent who wasn't paying attention.
