Stars drop 4-1 decision to Edmonton

Tuesday, May 4, 1999 | 10:39 a.m.

EDMONTON -- Win or lose, the Las Vegas Stars will have reason to celebrate after tonight's game with the Edmonton Trappers here.

It's their last game of the season against the Trappers, the triple-A affliate of the California Angels, who have won six of their seven meetings between the two clubs, including the first three games of this current series.

Edmonton, behind the combined five-hit pitching of starter Mike Fyhrie, Chris Michalak, Joe Jacobsen and Scott Brow, cruised past the Stars, 4-1, Monday night at chilly Telus Field.

Designated hitter Reggie Williams hit his first home run of the year for the Trappers (13-12) in the first inning, and third baseman Steve Decker capped a three-run fifth with a two-run single.

Las Vegas (10-15) got its only run in the third inning when third baseman Ed Giovanola opened with a long triple to right-center and scored one out later on a sacrifice fly by shortstop Rico Rossy.

Giovanola and DH Carlos Garcia each had two hits for Las Vegas.
