The Internet portal Yahoo! said Monday it sued a Las Vegas company, accusing it of being an Internet "spammer" and claiming it forged Yahoo! e-mail addresses to send marketing material.
Santa Clara, Calif., based Yahoo Inc. sued Information Technologies Corp., which it identified as a Las Vegas firm located at 3230 E. Flamingo Road, Suite 555.
Clark County officials said they had no record of a business license being issued to a company of that name at that address. No one could be reached for comment by telephone at Information Technologies.
Yahoo! claims Information Technologies sells information on court rulings. Yahoo! claims that in promotional mass e-mails, or "spams," Information Technologies forged the headers of thousands of promotional e-mail messages to look like they came from yahoo.com addresses.
The suit in U.S. District Court in San Jose alleges this violated Yahoo!'s trademark.
