Water aerobics, seminar on gambling on tap

Senior Advantage is offering water aerobics demonstrations 3-4 p.m. Friday and a seminar, "Gambling on a Fixed Income," 2-3 p.m. May 11.

Both programs will be held at Valley Hospital Medical Center, 620 Shadow Lane. Call 388-4665.

Sunrise nurses seek food and clothing

Nurses at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center are requesting donations of food and clothing from hospital staff for various charity organizations in recognition of both Nurses Week and Hospital Awareness Week now through May 14.

In addition to food and clothing, the nurses request donations of unopened nail polish, deodorant, perfumes and cosmetics. Call 731-8018.

Classes for seniors set at Sunrise pavilion

Senior Fitness classes are being offered by Sunrise Senior Friends noon-1 p.m. May 11, 18 and 25 at the Sunrise Doctor's Pavilion, 3131 La Canada St.

The class fee is $2 per session. A doctor's release is required for participation. Call 735-5510.

Libraries planning activities for children

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will present a variety of programs and activities beginning at 4 p.m. today at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Preschool and elementary age children will make paper flowers and listen to stories. Children ages 5 and older can listen to stories, sample salsa and chips and a pinata at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave. Call 733-1139.

Supermarket walk, drivers course scheduled

Senior Advantage Resource Center is offering a supermarket walk at the Summerlin Trails Vons 10-11 a.m. Wednesday and a 55 Alive Drivers Course 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. May 11 and 12.

These programs are for adults 50 and older. Both programs will be held at 9310 Sun City Blvd., Suite 101. For reservations or information, call 363-1150.

Mayor's Challenge set for UNLV track

The Mayors' Sports Challenge, a nationwide initiative developed by Nike Town and the U.S. Conference of Mayors to motivate middle school students to participate in running as a sport, will be held 9-11 a.m. Thursday at UNLV's track.

Legendary Olympic champion Carl Lewis will lead the competitors in a warm-up stretch, offer tips for competition and talk about how running can make a positive impact on lives. For additional information, contact Robyn Fink at (404) 875-1444, Ext. 229.
