Truck driver whose rig flipped faces criminal charges

Monday, May 3, 1999 | 11:38 a.m.

Clyde White, 57, Oakland, Calif., was reported in serious but stable condition late Monday at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, hospital spokesman John Wheeler said.

White was headed southbound through the Washoe Valley about 4:30 a.m. Monday when he lost control of his 50-foot trailer and rolled into the dirt median, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

A warning sign prohibited campers and trailers from entering the valley at that time due to the high winds and rainy conditions, the patrol said.

White apparently was ejected from the cab. He was taken to Washoe Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.

State troopers investigating the accident said it appeared White had been under the influence of alcohol.

Upon his release from the hospital, he will be booked into the Washoe County jail on first offense DUI, failure to wear a seatbelt, open container of alcohol and commercial vehicle driver under the influence of alcohol, the patrol said.
