Three NHP troopers receive agency’s Medal of Valor

Monday, May 3, 1999 | 2:45 a.m.

Troopers Michael Gyll, Amy Del Soldato and John O'Rourke received the agency's Medal of Valor in a ceremony at NHP headquarters in Reno.

Gyll also was presented with a Purple Heart because of injuries he suffered in February 1998 when he shot and killed a Kansas man who tried to run over him following a car chase in Gardnerville.

Del Soldato was honored for assisting in the April 1998 arrest of Troy Allen Bacon in Gardnerville after the suspect opened fire at two Douglas County officers during a shootout in a motel parking lot along U.S. 395.

O'Rourke was recognized for saving the lives of two accident victims who were trapped inside a burning vehicle on the Mount Rose Highway last October.
