Annual celebration set at Freedom Park
The Mexican Patriotic Committee will host the 18th annual Cinco De Mayo Celebration 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday at Freedom Park, featuring live entertainment throughout the day, food from different regions of Mexico and circus acts, including the world-famous "Flying Indians."
Admission is $5, free for children under 12.
Education program planned for young people
Young adults ages 14-20 who have an interest in emergency medicine, paramedics, search and rescue, nursing and athletic training are invited to an informational meeting for a new hands-on career education program being offered at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Denny's restaurant, 2201 W. Sahara Ave.
In the program Volunteer Emergency Medical Service Inc., members and medical professionals teach students about search and rescue, Flight For Life, sports medicine and CPR and EMT certification. Call Denise at 736-4366, Ext. 241.
Learn how to get a fresh start with banks
The Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Southern Nevada is offering Fresh Start Checking, a program that allows residents who have been denied banking privileges an opportunity to re-establish and maintain a satisfactory banking relationship.
The seminar will be offered in English 6-7 p.m. Wednesday or 3-4 p.m. May 20 and in Spanish 9-10 a.m. May 12.
The group also will offer a free home-buyer seminar in English 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. May 15 and 22 and 5:30-9:30 p.m. May 10, 17 and 24 and 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. May 14 and 21 and in Spanish 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 11 and 18. The classes will be held at 3650 S. Decatur Blvd., Suite 32. Advance registration is required. Call 364-0344.
