The index is a forecast for the economy in July based on data from January.
UNLV's Center for Business and Economic Research said increases in gross gaming revenue and passenger activity at McCarran International Airport accounted for the movement of the index.
Gross gaming revenue of $670 million was up 21.54 percent from December and was up 17.26 percent from January 1998.
McCarran traffic of 2.5 million people was up 3 percent from December and up 9.13 percent from January 1998.
"All in all, the index has trended up during the past few months," the UNLV center said.
