Kaufman & Broad, Saxton profits up

Quarterly revenue was up 63 percent to $694.1 million.
Reflecting its acquisition of Lewis Homes and the booming housing markets in the West, Kaufman & Broad said it took orders for 5,621 homes in the first quarter -- up from 3,716 in 1998's first quarter.
Separately, Saxton Inc. of Las Vegas reported a fourth quarter profit of $3.4 million or 44 cents per share, up from $1.4 million or 19 cents in the year-ago quarter.
Quarterly revenue jumped 166 percent to $38.6 million.
Saxton builds homes and commercial buildings in Nevada, Arizona and Utah.
