Beeper, pager bill rejected

Friday, March 26, 1999 | 1:57 a.m.

The Education Committee killed AB307, sought by Assemblyman Doug Bache, D-Las Vegas, to enforce an already existing ban on students bringing the devices to school.

Bache, a middle school teacher in the Clark County School District, said the devices cause disruptions in the classroom and that some penalty was needed to enforce the 1993 law making their possession at school illegal.

But students testified that the devices weren't disruptive and that Bache's bill would cause more problems than it would solve.

Bache said he will still try to get Education Committee Chairman Wendell Williams, D-Las Vegas, to send a letter to the district asking officials to enforce the existing law.
