SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
The Garth Brooks traveling baseball show could be making an appearance in Las Vegas next weekend.
According to Las Vegas Stars general manager Don Logan, there's a good chance the country music star will still be on the San Diego Padres' spring training roster when the team plays two games at Cashman Field as part of Big League Weekend.
"I called Arizona and (Padres general manager) Kevin Towers told me that the Padres, at this point, plan on having Garth on their travel squad," Logan said.
Any chance Brooks would stay behind and open the season on April 8 with the Stars?
"I'd love for that to happen, but no one has told me what his plans are," Logan said.
The Padres face the Milwaukee Brewers at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 2, and then battle the Chicago White Sox at noon on Saturday, April 3. Other Big League Weekend matchups include the Chicago Cubs against the Seattle Mariners at noon on April 2 and the Brewers against the Mariners at 6 p.m. on April 3.
Only a few standing room tickets remain for the Cubs-Mariners game, according to Logan. Tickets priced at $15 and $12.50 remain for the other three games and can be obtained at the Cashman Field box office (386-7200) or by calling TicketMaster at 474-4000.
