Class-action suit filed by Reno attorney

Thursday, March 25, 1999 | 11:36 a.m.

The suit says management of the corporate stores of Econo Lube N' Tune Inc. were pressured into fraudulent repair practices by paying managers on a commission basis.

Eleven of the 12 Las Vegas area Econo Lube stores are independently owned as franchise stores and are not subject to the suit. The one company store, at 1100 S. Main St., is in the process of converting to a franchise operation.

Ken Johnson, the manager and owner of that store, said he was unfamiliar with the suit. A representative of the Newport Beach, Calif., company was unavailable for comment.

In his suit, Reno attorney Kevin McInerney seeks restitution for customers nationwide who took vehicles to company-owned Econo Lube stores in the past four years. He filed the complaint on behalf of San Diego resident Sean Mooney, who said the company billed him for $700 worth of work that was never completed and he suspects wasn't needed.
