Two killed in rollover on I-80
Monday, March 22, 1999 | 1:35 a.m.
The Nevada Highway Patrol said the occupants were returning from a funeral in Michigan and were on their way back to California when the accident occurred Sunday night.
Constance Peters, 49, of Oakland, Calif., was driving when the car drifted off the road, the patrol said. Peters overcorrected and the car overturned. Three people were ejected.
Peters and Frederick Battle, 48, of Los Angeles, died.
Peters' 6-year-old grandson, Tracy Murphy, also was ejected and suffered serious injuries. A 12-year-old grandchild remained in the car during the crash and suffered moderate injuries, the patrol said.
Authorities said driver inattention was to blame for the accident, though an investigation continued.
