Reno’s transportation commission picks new chief

The Regional Transportation Commission skipped a national candidate search and promoted Deputy Executive Director Derek Morse to its top administrative post.
Morse, 47, replaces Celia Kupersmith as executive director on April 1.
Kupersmith is leaving to take the top job with the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District in San Francisco.
Morse, who joined the district in 1993, was a finalist for the executive director job five years ago when the commission hired Kupersmith.
RTC Chairman John Mayer said it seemed like a waste of money to spend thousands of dollars on a job search when the commission was confident Morse could do the job.
Among other things, RTC oversees the Citifare bus system.
