Letter: Give tobacco money to victims

Sunday, March 21, 1999 | 11:36 a.m.

Tobacco settlement money is not the state's money; it belongs to the victims of tobacco, both smokers and nonsmokers, who may have become sick either through living with a smoker or by gambling in casinos.

If you contract lung cancer in Nevada, the state and the casinos should pay your bills! That money is ours! The casinos allow smoking because they know that people who are problem gamblers would gamble much less if they couldn't smoke.

The Nevada Resort Association, for that reason, will never help the problem gambler; if they made the casinos smoke-free that would hurt their bottom line!
