Man dies after struggle with police

A man died in Metro Police custody Wednesday afternoon after an officer used pepper spray to subdue the struggling suspect.

The Clark County coroner's office this morning was still trying to determine the cause of death.

The names of the dead man and the two officers who subdued him shortly before his death have not been released.

Petersen said the officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.

Petersen said the man was pepper-sprayed after a struggle, who was then handcuffed.

The officer called for paramedics to wash the spray from the man's eyes. When paramedics arrived, the man went into respiratory arrest, police said.

The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he died a few minutes later.
