A teenager shot in the back on March 11 died from the wound Wednesday.
Jesus Celestin, 14, was in an apartment at 3431 E. Cheyenne Ave. when several shots were fired through the windows of the kitchen and living room. One of the shots struck the youth in the back.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact North Las Vegas Police at 633-9111 or call the Secret Witness Hotline at 385-5555.
Charges filed against murder suspect
A man whom police pursued for more than a year in connection with a brutal murder after a card game dispute has been indicted by a Clark County grand jury a month after his arrest.
A March 24 arraignment has been scheduled for 28-year-old Noel Bright on murder and attempted murder charges. Bail was set Wednesday at $300,000 by Chief District Judge Lee Gates.
Deputy District Attorney Valerie Adair said a high bail is warranted, describing the killing of John Richard and the shooting of his companion David Gaynor at 4305 E. Stewart Ave., as a gang-related slaying over a petty incident.
Adair said the case was presented to a grand jury rather than the public forum of a Justice Court preliminary hearing because one witness in the case has been killed and other witnesses are "extremely terrified."
Richard was killed Dec. 13, 1997, but Bright wasn't apprehended until Feb. 25.
Driver indicted in Henderson collision
An accident that left a Henderson Police corrections officer in a coma for several days has resulted in a grand jury indictment of Paul Douglas Haber on a felony drunken driving charge.
Haber's Ford struck a Toyota driven by Jocelyn Corpus at Green Valley and Silver Springs parkways in Henderson on Dec. 8, according to the charges.
Haber, who is free on house arrest and $5,000 bail, will be arraigned March 31 in District Court.
Charges filed against driver
A collision that killed two Texas tourists riding downtown in a taxi on Feb. 27 has resulted in the indictment of Gary James Bodiot on reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter charges.
The indictment, which alleges Bodiot was driving his Jeep Cherokee at least 50 mph along Charleston Boulevard and ran a red light at Main Street, also charges Bodiot with leaving the scene of an accident.
The indictment states that a third Texas tourist in the cab and Star Cab Co. driver Grady Meredith Pryor suffered serious injuries in the collision.
Man found dead believed murdered
North Las Vegas police are hoping that the results of an autopsy will reveal what killed a 63-year-old man found dead in his apartment on Wednesday morning.
Police responded to the apartment complex at 2125 Las Vegas Blvd. North after residents had called concerned that they had not seen their neighbor.
The cause of death could not be determined, but police believe that the man was murdered and are looking into several leads, Lt. Joe Forti said.
Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call police at 633-9111, or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
Memorial service Friday for Sabo
A public memorial service for missing North Las Vegas pilot Gus Sabo will be 1 p.m. Friday at the North Las Vegas Airport Cheyenne Center hangar.
Sabo's family called off the search Sunday for the pilot who crashed while flying his experimental plane en route home from Mexico, where he had been vacationing.
Sabo, 51, was the manager of the North Las Vegas Airport. He left Baja California on March 7. The plane's fuselage was found in the Gulf of California on Saturday, but no body was found.
Sabo's wife, Carolyn, dean of health services at UNLV, is asking that donations be sent to Youth in Aviation, care of Richard Schultz, 926 Vista Lago Way, Boulder City, NV 89005.
