Harvey’s passes on casino site

The company had considered a 2,500-room resort casino on the site, currently occupied by the Drink nightclub and 96 apartments.
Jim Rafferty, the company's senior vice president of corporate marketing, said Harvey's wants to let the Las Vegas market absorb its current round of resort construction before building here.
"We're going to wait it out," said Rafferty. "We want to see how the Las Vegas market shakes out."
Lake Tahoe-based Harvey's is committed to Las Vegas, said Rafferty.
"Ultimately, we want to be in Las Vegas, and it's just a matter of when rather than if," said Rafferty.
Harvey's sold its interest in the Las Vegas Hard Rock hotel-casino in 1997. The company owns casino resorts in Lake Tahoe, Central City, Colo., and Council Bluffs, Iowa. Harvey's was acquired by Colony Capital Inc., of Los Angeles, last year.
