Editorial: Sweatshops are target of monitoring group

The Board of Regents, then, should consider whether it's feasible to join a new factory monitoring group, which 17 universities and colleges joined earlier this week. The Fair Labor Association will establish a code of conduct for apparel factories and, importantly, establish a program to monitor possible violations. "We're laying a foundation to create some accountability," said Michael Posner, executive director of the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, an association member. Universities can profit handsomely from the selling of their licensed apparel, but fortunately many of these institutions of higher learning have found it troubling to keep making money off someone else's misery.
