The State Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said there were an estimated 35,000 people out of work in January, or about 9,000 fewer than in January 1998.
The 3.3 percent compares with the national rate of 4.3 percent and California at 5.7 percent.
Department Director Carol Jackson said the state's rate shows "Nevada's labor market is very tight but the state's economy remains sound."
Unemployment increased in the Las Vegas area from 2.8 percent in December to 3.6 percent in January, when there were an estimated 25,400 people out of work.
