Hooper triumphs at LVMS

Ray Hooper Jr. overtook Scott Gafforini midway through the race and held on to claim the 30-lap Late Model Sportsman main event Saturday night at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway 3/8-mile paved oval. Hooper edged Chris Lowden, Steve Anderson, Gafforini and Chuck Trickle to collect his first victory of the year in a 20-car feature.
Defending Grand American Modified champion Randy Swalwell picked up his first win of the year over Doug Hamm, Tim Richter and Mike Montes, while Kurt Busch edged younger brother Kyle Busch in the Legends Division main event.
Garry Fuller captured the Limited Late Model main event over Dennis Rock and Glen Burke.
