Rebels’ Linda Froehlich named National Freshman of the Year

UNLV forward Linda Froehlich has been named the National Freshman of the Year by the Women's Basketball Journal, the magazine announced Wednesday.
Froehlich, who led the Western Athletic Conference in scoring average this season with 23.5 ppg, also was selected to the Freshman All-America Team.
This award is the most recent in a long list of accolades for Froehlich, who led the Lady Rebels to a 17-11 mark this season, which was their best record in the last five years. Her other honors this season include WAC Mountain Division Freshman of the Year, Mountain Division First-Team All-WAC, WAC Mountain Division All-Newcomer Team, WAC All-Tournament Team and two-time WAC Mountain Division Player of the Week.
Froehlich ranked first in the nation in freshman scoring and sixth among all players. She finished first in the WAC in steals with 2.9 per game and second in rebounding with 9.2 per game.
