Injunction sought against repair shop

A state agency is going to bat for a consumer whose car was held by a repair shop for failing to pay the bill.
The Nevada Department of Business and Industry filed suit against A-Allied Service Center, 4047 W. Desert Inn Road.
The state is seeking an injunction preventing the company from holding the vehicle and placing a lien on it and a civil penalty against the company.
The incident began when William Rollins signed a work authorization to diagnose a starter problem on his 1990 Ford Escort. When presented with a bill for $1,200, Rollins refused to pay, saying he had not authorized repairs.
Rollins was presented with a bill for $1,770 for the repairs and for car storage at $15 a day.
The Attorney General's Office said the state's interest in the case is determining whether a repair company can place a mechanic's lien on the car and threaten to sell it without having a signed repair order.
Joshua Landish, an attorney for A-Allied, denied the company did anything wrong and said the state is practicing selective enforcement.
