The first Isle of Capri location to house a Wayne Newton Theater complex will be in Tunica County, Miss. Isle of Capri and Newton plan two theaters in Robinsonville, Tunica County, with combined seating for more than 2,000 people.
"His name in the entertainment world says it all," said Isle of Capri President John Gallaway. "There isn't a bigger name in gaming entertainment than Wayne Newton."
Isle of Capri owns casinos in Biloxi, Robinsonville and Vicksburg, Miss.; Bossier City and Lake Charles, La.; and in Black Hawk, Colo.
Isle of Capri acquired the Tunica County casino last week. It was originally the Harrah's at Casino Strip in Robinsonville. Harrah's closed it in May 1996, a month after opening across the road in the former Southern Belle Casino.
Isle of Capri will convert the antebellum-style property to its own Caribbean theme, Gallaway told the Commercial Appeal newspaper in Memphis, Tenn.
The casino, with about 900 slot machines as well as table games, will open this summer as the 10th casino in Tunica County, Gallaway told the Commercial Appeal.
