Henry Simon, an Arlington, Texas, bankruptcy attorney, said the new owner, Duncan Family Holdings, Arlington, plans to develop the company as a franchise holder instead of operating company stores. The 16 stores closed, including outlets at 633 N. Stephanie St. and 2303 N. Rainbow Blvd., were stores directly operated by Nevada Bob's Pro Shop Inc.
Simon said new franchise stores are expected to be opened in Las Vegas as the company closes the remaining 44 company stores. The company also franchises about 250 stores with the Nevada Bob's name worldwide.
The Robert Lucia family sold the financially troubled company for an undisclosed price to Duncan, which has other golf holdings and is headed by Mark Gunderson. When some creditors attempted to force the company into a Chapter 7 liquidation after the sale, the company voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which allows it to continue operations during reorganization.
The store at 4043 S. Eastern Ave. remains open.
