SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
The UNLV softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Sunday against Cal State Northridge, losing 8-1 and 12-4 despite three Rebel home runs.
The Matadors jumped to an early lead in the opener when they scored four runs off pitcher Charelle Ainslie. Nicole Truax entered the game in the first and was able to slow down the Cal State Northridge bats but UNLV could not come back. The Rebels' only run of the game was a home run by Racheal Goodpaster, her sixth of the season.
In the second game, Northridge once again scored early with two runs in the first inning. However, a seven-run third inning was the difference as UNLV lost by way of the eight-run mercy rule. Down 10-0 in the fourth, the Rebels scored three runs off home runs by Nicole Miller and Genny Orris. Northridge added two runs in the top of the fifth to go up nine runs and UNLV could only answer with one in the Rebels' final at bat.
UNLV gets back into conference action next weekend with three games at Hawaii.
