Letter: Visitor criticizes Bellagio’s policy
Monday, March 8, 1999 | 11:45 a.m.
Saturday morning I decided to take everyone to the Bellagio for breakfast. A large man in a red coat stopped my 10-year-old granddaughter and asked her if she was a guest. By that time I was alongside her and said no we were going in for breakfast. I was then told that people under 18 are not welcome. I could not believe that in 1999 this type of blatant discrimination exists.
What next? No blind people, no Jews and no blacks. Ask Steve Wynn where it will stop? In addition to no one under 18, I understand that children in strollers are not allowed in -- does this also include people in wheelchairs?
My granddaughter was embarrassed as a result of this confrontation -- she had trouble understanding why she was not let in. I also had this problem in 1965 when I tried to register at the Chateau Frontenac and was refused because I was Jewish.
I think this policy should be re-evaluated or at least made public so families know they are not welcome in Las Vegas.
As a publisher and editor of a weekly newsletter, the Plattchat News & Views, I intend to give this as much publicity as possible. I only hope you try this in Atlantic City -- you will then have the opportunity to feel the wrath of many grandparents.
