"I feel I've let people down, but I can't serve if I don't have my health," Bingham, 45, said in a news release.
Campaign spokeswoman Terry Murphy said a previous condition that Bingham and his doctor thought was under control reappeared during a routine physical exam. Murphy would not elaborate.
Bingham, a land developer and lobbyist who left the Clark County Commission in 1996 after three terms, announced in January that he would run for mayor.
"Again, this is not life-threatening, but it is serious enough for me to stop the campaign, and I'm heartbroken over this decision," Bingham said.
Attorney Oscar Goodman, City Councilman Arnie Adamsen, developer Mark Fine and former City Councilman Steve Miller all are running to succeed Las Vegas Mayor Jan Jones, who decided not to seek a third term in this spring's election.
