Police probe hit-and-run accident that killed two taxi passengers

Police are examining evidence to determine whether to arrest Gary James Bodiot, 38, in a hit-and-run accident Saturday that killed two passengers in a taxi and injured another.

Bodiot of Las Vegas, according to police, ran on foot from the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Main Street after the accident, which police said was caused by a car failing to stop for a red light.

The taxi, driven by Grady Pryor, 61, was traveling north on Main Street carrying passengers from Texas when it was hit. Pryor was listed in fair condition this morning at University Medical Center, and one passenger, Roland Stewart was listed in serious condition at UMC.

The names of the two passengers who died were not released until family members can be notified.

Police will use scientific techniques to determine whether Bodiot was driving the car and submit the information to the district attorney's office, a police spokesman said.

After the accident, a K-9 unit was called to the scene to follow a blood trail, which led to the area of Charleston and Shadow Lane near UMC, police said. Bodiot was found in UMC's waiting room with minor injuries.

The accident and deaths could result in charges of felony hit-and-run and felony reckless driving.
