A Las Vegas contractor who made a fortune building swimming pools will spend five years in prison and pay $1.45 million in restitution after pleading guilty to 37 counts of tax evasion, fraudulent use of a Social Security number and failure to file individual and employment tax returns.
Frank David "Butch" Krumme was sentenced last week by Senior U.S. District Judge Lloyd D. George for crimes dating back to 1980.
Krumme, who entered his guilty plea on March 24, evaded paying $1.1 million in taxes between 1980 and 1988. He is also was charged with failing to pay taxes on $2.9 million in income between 1992 and 1996.
U.S. Attorney Kathryn Landreth said Krumme engaged in "numerous affirmative attempts to evade the payment of the taxes by using Social Security numbers belonging to at least two other individuals."
Krumme also conducted business under multiple company names that were not properly licensed to him, Landreth said.
