Interior Secretary to tour Black Rock Desert
Tuesday, June 29, 1999 | 4:05 a.m.
The tour arranged by Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., comes as the Bureau of Land Management considers amending its management plan for the 452,000-acre desert that sprawls across portions of Washoe, Humboldt and Pershing counties.
The proposal preferred by the agency would limit the number of visitors, curtail the use of off-road and all-terrain vehicles, close some areas and roads and create designated camping areas.
Babbitt is expected to tour the desert with Bryan and other officials on July 9.
