Fire destroys mobile home
Sunday, June 27, 1999 | 9:35 a.m.
Fire officials said the 10-acre blaze Friday afternoon was started by a 14-year-old boy playing with matches. The fire apparently began in the backyard of the Shaffer home and spread to adjacent open fields.
Shaffer and his wife, Sharon, stayed at the home in the Mark Twain subdivision during legislative sessions, said neighbor Jill Drumheller.
"It was an older mobile - the kind made out of metal - and it kind of melted down," she said. "It burned the whole place to the ground."
Neighbors said they didn't believe the Shaffers were in the area at the time. The Shaffers didn't return phone calls.
The fire threatened some other homes, but caused no other damage to buildings.
