"This Week At LVMS," a weekly television show highlighting the racing activities at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, debuts Saturday morning on Cox Cable channel 61.
Produced by Caples Productions and hosted by local television sports anchor Ron Futrell, the show airs on cable channel 61 every Saturday at 9 a.m. and on local channel 17 (KEEN) Wednesdays at 8 p.m. and Fridays at 8:30 p.m.
"This is something that has been needed for a long time. I am glad to be a part of it," Futrell said. "The building of the speedway is a major community story and I like that it is community oriented. These are local people racing every weekend and it is a large part of their lives."
The hour-long magazine format includes highlights from the previous weekend's races, insider reports and feature stories. Viewers can expect to see a variety of racing as the show covers not only the superspeedway, but also the 3/8-mile paved oval, 1/3-mile dirt track and 1/4-mile drag strip.
"The flavor we want to get across is the fun, affordable, great racing that goes on at the speedway," Howard Lee, general sales manager of Caples Productions, said. "This is the highest recognizable sporting event today and we hope to get locals out to see the racing live."
To support the television broadcast, a radio show hosted by Tony Desiere airs every Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m. on KLAV 1230 AM. The radio version gives listeners an opportunity to interact with the guests and host via live call-ins.
In addition, the radio broadcast can be heard live on the Internet at www.radiovegas.com.
