Learning the trade

Actor-director Dominick Brascia will host a free acting workshop from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Charleston Heights Art Center, 800 S. Brush St. Call 226-5620.

New art shows

Local artist Wayne Littlejohn will be honored by the Las Vegas Arts Commission at the dedication of his bench project at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at the Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza at Lorenzi Park.

The paintings of artist Mohammad Darehbaghi, created in the tradition of the Museum of Carpet and Decorative Arts of Iran in Persian rug design, are on display through Sept. 7 at Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave.

The Moapa Valley Art Guild will exhibit "A Southwestern Summer" through July at the Lost City Museum, 721 S. Moapa Blvd., in Overton. Museum hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults; children are admitted free. Call 397-2193.

"The Artists' Search," a collection of interpretational paintings by artists Harold Bradford, Sylvester Collier and Vicki Richardson, will be displayed Thursday through Aug. 30 at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center gallery, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The paintings of local artist Tanja Nikolic are indefinitely on display at Only Diamonds Mini Gallery, 501 S. Rainbow Blvd. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.

Film festivals

"La Promesse," a film portraying the lives of a father and son living in in a decaying suburb in post-industrial, pre-millenial Europe, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. Admission is $2. Call 229-6383.

Jaycee Park's annual film festival begins at 8 p.m. Thursday with "Mulan." The films will be shown Thursdays through Aug. 5 at Jaycee Park, at the intersection of St. Louis and Eastern avenues. Other films to be shown are "Paulie" (July 8), "Madeline" (July 15) "The Borrowers" (July 22), "Bogus" (July 29) and "Pocahontas" (Aug. 5). Call 229-6211.

All the right moves

Merluzzi Dance Center presents its dance and gymnastics spring recital at 6 p.m. Saturday at Artemus Ham Concert Hall at UNLV. Admission is free. Call 895-3801.

Recreation celebration

In celebration of the Las Vegas' Department of Leisure Services' 50th anniversary, the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North, will host a Wildcat Lair Party and Tribute to Jeanne Roberts at 8 p.m.today. Roberts was the center's director for eight years. Call 229-6211.
