The remote Nevada Test Site will continue its anti-terrorism activities as one of four national training centers, a congressional subcommittee has decided.
The Test Site will receive $4 million out of the $16 million counterterrorism package, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., a member of the Commerce, Justice, State and Judiciary Appropriations subcommittee, said.
Training centers in Louisiana, Texas and New Mexico will also receive $4 million each, Reid said. Emergency crews spend up to two weeks learning how to respond to biological or chemical attacks.
The Test Site, operated by the Department of Energy and its contractor, Bechtel Nevada, began domestic anti-terrorism training last year.
