Commission OKs $25,000 fine against Rio

Friday, June 25, 1999 | 11:05 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- The state Gaming Commission on Thursday accepted payment of a $25,000 fine levied against the Rio Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for allowing minors in the gaming area.

A complaint filed by the state Gaming Control Board said agents saw five people under 21 either loitering in the gaming area or playing slot machines in July at the Rio.

Michael Bonner, attorney for the Rio, did not contest the charge but made it clear the resort does extensive training for its employees to guard against underage persons being in the gaming area.

The commission also:

Approved Advanced Casino Systems Corp., of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., for a manufacturer and distributor's license. Major officers in Advanced Casino are the Pratt family, formerly owners and landlords of the Sands Hotel, which has been demolished in Las Vegas.

Approved John Thielman as general manager of Terrible's Lakeside Casino and Terrible's Town, both in Pahrump.

Approved Leroy's Horse and Sports Place's application to run satellite race and sports books at Bourbon Street Casino and Key Largo Casino, both in Las Vegas.

Approved Ronald Michalak as general manager of Green Valley Gaming in Las Vegas.
