A dramatic increase in convention attendance in April helped Laughlin post an increase in visitor volume and gaming win for the month.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau said 390,277 people visited the town on the Colorado River south of Las Vegas in April. That's up 2.2 percent from April 1998.

The LVCVA said convention attendance surged 55.1 percent to 13,211, helping room occupancy edge up 2 percentage points to 89.6 and to an increase in monthly gaming revenue of 6.8 percent to $45 million.
