Letter: Reagan, Bush had military reasons
Tuesday, June 22, 1999 | 10:10 a.m.
Mr. Olivier also scoffs at how these people used to support the military operations of Presidents Reagan and Bush but won't support his president in Yugoslavia simply because he's a Democrat.
Mr. Olivier, if I ever cheered for Reagan at Grenada, it was for the rescue of American students over there who were threatened by marauding Cuban soldiers.
If I cheered for Reagan on Libya, it was for his stern resolve to thwart any more terrorist attacks from this nation; which succeeded.
When I got my "jollies" on Desert Storm, it was not only to protect our national interest (oil), but to remind tyrants like Saddam Hussein that they can't just attack and annex any nation they wish.
Unlike Clinton, Reagan and Bush were never impeached, found in contempt of court, or had allegations of treason in the sale of classified secrets to China. Reagan and Bush had every right to have their reasons for military action taken at face value; Bill Clinton does not.
Oh yes, I won't argue about the Death Squads in El Salvador. I was just as appalled about our support of this as I was at our own Death Squad who murdered men, women and children at Waco; we know whose administration can take credit for that.
