The UNLV women's basketball program has hired Kristin Knapp and Brenda Pantoja as assistant coaches, head coach Regina Miller announced Thursday.
Knapp comes to UNLV from Auburn University, where she served as an assistant coach since the summer of 1996. At Auburn, Knapp was primarily responsible for the coaching of the post players and team travel. She also assisted with recruiting and scouting.
Before earning the job at Auburn, Knapp was the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach for three years at Santa Barbara High School in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Knapp was a power forward at Notre Dame from 1990-94, and after her college career played professionally with the Swedish Basketball Association for one season. At Notre Dame, she was named to the 1991 MCC All-Freshman team, as that year's team won the MCC championship and played in the NIT. She also participated on the 1991 U.S. Olympic Festival team that won the bronze medal.
Pantoja comes to Las Vegas from Long Beach State, where she served as an assistant coach since 1997. At CSULB, Pantoja was primarily responsible for the coaching of the guards. She also handled team travel and summer camps, while assisting with recruiting.
Before coaching at Long Beach State, Pantoja was the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach at Mountain View High School in Tucson, Ariz., for one season.
