Strip resort adding trapeze act

The Clark County Planning Commission this week approved applications by the Tropicana hotel-casino for a special events building and trapeze act, and by the Mirage hotel-casino for a new building that will contain a theater and convention center.
The Commission also approved an application by Grand Plaza LP to extend its permit for a resort hotel-casino on Koval Lane between Harmon and Rochelle Avenues for two years.
The Tropicana plan calls for a 20,000 square-foot special events building and a trapeze act between the resort's two hotel towers. The plan also calls for two 1,400-square-foot electronic message unit signs. The building will be located between the resort and Tropicana Avenue. Tropicana officials declined to elaborate on the plans. The Tropicana must re-submit the plan for review and re-approval in six months.
The Mirage plan is for a 253,600 square-foot theater, convention center and office building. Mirage will feature Broadway-style musicals in a 1,500-seat theater in the building.
The Grand Plaza plan calls for a 33-story, 2,500-room hotel with a 100,000-square-foot casino, shops, restaurants, a sports book and a 2,500-seat showroom. The plan was first approved in June, 1998. Grand Plaza owner Nightspot Inc. asked for two more years to complete final development and financing plans.
