LVMS hires short-track manager

Friday, June 18, 1999 | 10:12 a.m.

David Stetzer has been named senior manager of short-track operations for Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He replaces Larry Horton, who resigned under pressure.

Stetzer comes to LVMS from 600 Racing in Concord, N.C., where he served as general manager for more than six years. Before that he developed the track rental department at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

"I'm excited about moving to Las Vegas," Stetzer said. "I told them to pick me up from the airport and take me straight to work. I have never seen a racing facility with so much potential.

"I want to look at what is in place now and make sure the customers are happy, and then I want to look at how to help take the short-track program to the next level."

As the track rental coordinator for Lowe's Motor Speedway, Stetzer took over a newly created position. When he left that post three years later, track rentals had grown by more than 1,000 percent.

Stetzer then was asked to oversee the development of 600 Racing. The business had been incorporated by Speedway Motorsports and was designed to create 5/8th-scale race cars.

Stetzer is a graduate of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania with a degree in sports management. He is married with two children.
