Letter: Spanking does not constitute abuse

Intelligent adults, growing children and a nosey society need to comprehend said difference and be aware of the parameters that constitute spanking.
When that happens, CPS can dedicate more time and attention to the true cases of abuse instead of being logjammed with spanking-equals-abuse charges.
A favorite quote from N.C.O. Leadership School: "Effective communication results in the desired change of behavior." Intelligent people comprehend that statement.
If "time out" or denial of privileges are effective, fine.
If spanking is effective, fine. Parents need to have the freedom to choose without fear of being charged with abuse.
I agree with letter writer Alan DiCicco about one thing: we must look within our homes first. For that is where the choice will be made.
By the parents, and by the children (as witnessed by their change of behavior): not by a nosey society. Spanking does not constitute abuse.
However, if spanking is the only form of attention a child receives, then you might have cause for concern.
