Anti-graffiti volunteers to paint town

Clark County and the city of North Las Vegas are teaming up to help residents who want to spend Saturday "painting the town."
A new graffiti elimination program utilizing volunteers -- Southern Nevada Paints the Town! -- kicks off Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, and North Las Vegas City Hall, 2200 Civic Center Drive.
The program is designed to clean up neighborhoods and businesses that have been defaced by graffiti. The goal is to help residents, businesses and the community at large take a pro-active stand against neighborhood graffiti, organizers of the program said.
Staff members from Clark County and the city of North Las Vegas will work along with community volunteers in providing the labor to get the graffiti-pocked areas cleaned up. Volunteers of all ages are urged by the county and city staffs to turn out for this new program. All interested residents, businesses or community groups are welcome to participate. Staff will provide volunteers with paint brushes, buckets of free paint and a set of painting instructions.
The event, which is scheduled to wrap up at about 2 p.m., will take place at various locations throughout Clark County and North Las Vegas.
For information on how to participate, those wishing to volunteer may call Jim Foreman of the county's Public Response Office on Saturday on his cellular phone at 249-3436. Foreman will have information at that time on exact locations where clean-ups are taking place.
