Teamsters, Culinary contracts approved

The Riviera hotel-casino's hard count employees voted unanimously to join Teamsters Union local 995.
The hard count workers voted 7-0 to join the union during a National Labor Relations Board-supervised election June 15. The union said the workers are the first gaming employee unit to join the Teamsters, and the first hard count department in Las Vegas to request union representation.
Hard count employees empty, fill and then count the proceeds from coin-operated gaming devices, including slots and video poker machines. The Riviera's hard count employees will join 150 non-gaming Riviera workers who are already members of the Teamsters.
Separately, the Showboat hotel-casino said Culinary Local 226 members there ratified a new contract raising wages $1.55 per hour through 2002.
