Laura Myers named a Washington news editor

The appointment was announced Thursday by Chief of Bureau Sandy Johnson.
Myers joined the AP in Reno, Nev., in 1987. She also worked in the AP's San Francisco bureau and was correspondent in San Jose, Calif., until 1992, when she joined the Peace Corps in Africa.
Myers, 37, rejoined the AP in 1995 in Washington, where she has reported on politics, national security and international affairs.
She is a native of Las Vegas and a graduate of the University of Nevada-Reno.
