McCarran International Airport said it served 2.8 million passengers in May, up 9.6 percent from May 1998.
Separately, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said April visitor volume of 2.8 million people increased 9.1 percent from April 1998. Driven by the opening of the Bellagio and Mandalay Bay resorts, year-to-date visitation through April was up 9 percent from 1998, the LVCVA said.
The May and June numbers are also expected to be strong with opening of the Venetian and Resort at Summerlin.
The LVCVA said citywide hotel and motel occupancy was 91.8 percent in April, up 2.1 percentage points from April 1998. At McCarran, the growth in the passenger count was led by America West, Southwest and Delta. Southwest, the No. 1 carrier, served 781,218 passengers in May, up 7.5 percent. America West was up 8.4 percent with 475,131 customers and Delta was up 8.3 percent to 242,061 passengers. United Airlines was flat at 299,297 customers and Reno Air was down 11.2 percent to 126,530 people.
