Fishing report — June 16, 1999

Wednesday, June 16, 1999 | 9:35 a.m.

LAKE MEAD: Fishing continues to be fair for striped bass and channel catfish while anglers have been enjoying good luck during the past week for largemouth bass.

Boaters report the best fishing for stripers has been taking place in front of Boulder Beach, Government Wash and Las Vegas Wash. One boater reported that he had poor luck for stripers over the weekend while trolling in the Overton Arm.

Shore fishing has generally been slow with only an occasional striper being caught at Hemenway Harbor, the Pyramid Island causeway and Vegas Wash.

Largemouth bass are being taken from brush in coves and along cliff walls. Artificial worms, tube lures and spinner baits are catching the fish.

LAKE MOHAVE: Striped bass fishing is good for small fish around Cottonwood Cove while trout fishing should be good this weekend at Willow Beach because it is scheduled to be stocked on Thursday.

Stripers measuring from 12-14 inches are being caught in the narrows above Cottonwood Cove by boaters who are still fishing with anchovies and squid. Trollers are having fair success for stripers across the lake from Owl's Point.

Two largemouth bass were caught Sunday by a boater who was casting a jig in a cove near Eldorado Canyon. The fish measured 17 and 18 inches.
