Public meetings planned on Colorado River environment

Tuesday, June 8, 1999 | 9:46 a.m.

A series of public meetings about managing many species and saving their habitat along the lower Colorado River have been scheduled in Henderson, Arizona and California from mid-June through July 1.

The lower Colorado River supplies water to more than 27 million people in Nevada, Arizona and California and delivers hydroelectric power from Hoover, Glen Canyon, Parker and Davis dams.

The Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are the lead federal agencies for developing an environmental impact statement for future action on the river under the Lower Colorado River Management Conservation Program.

A hearing is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Henderson Convention Center on June 17.

Another hearing on June 16 beginning at 5 p.m. is set for Laughlin.

The deadline for written comments is July 27. Comments should be sent to Tom Shrader, Attention: LC-2500, Bureau of Reclamation, P.O. Box 61470, Boulder City, NV 89006-1470, or faxed to (702) 293-8146.
