J.C. Allen

J.C. Allen, 83, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 10, 1916, in Lee County, Texas. A resident for 40 years, he was a card dealer.

He is survived by two nieces, Claudine Yates and Christine Degeberg; and two nephews, Lawrence and Gregory Allen; and his church family.

A memorial service was scheduled for 1 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, followed by graveside services in Memory Gardens.

The family suggest donations to First United Methodist Church, 231 S. Third St., Las Vegas, NV 89101.

John James 'Jim' Almeido

John James "Jim" Almeido, 77, of Pahrump died Sunday in a local hospice. He was born June 17, 1921, in Rehoboth, Mass. A resident for eight years, he was a retired city of Santa Monica, Calif., bus driver for 42 years, a World War II Navy veteran, chairman of the Brotherhood of Railroad and Trainmen Union for 21 years and involved with the Senior Center of Pahrump.

He is survived by two daughters, Janne Croll of Chandler, Ariz., and Jennifer Almeido of Henderson; three sons, Michael Almeido, Donald Almeido and Patrick Almeido, and his companion, Jill Almeido, all of Henderson; four brothers, William, Alfred, Raymond and Albert, all of Massachusetts; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services will be private. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Roma V. Blackwill

Roma V. Blackwill, 80, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local care center. She was born Aug. 21, 1918, in South Dakota. A resident for 39 years, she was a homemaker and a volunteer librarian for the Clark County School District.

She is survived by her husband, Albert R.; one son, Robert D. Blackwill; one sister, Darleen Browning; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will follow at 2:15 p.m. Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Alfred Anthony Capitoli aka Allen Conroy

Alfred Anthony Capitoli, also know by the stage name Allen Conroy, 72, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Cleveland. A resident for 41 years, he was a dancer, a head carpenter in the hotel-casino industry and an Army entertainer.

He is survived by his wife, Lee; two daughters, Nicolette Capitoli and Brigitte Costentine, both of Las Vegas; his brother, Rudy Capitoli of New Jersey; and one grandchild.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anne Catholic Church, 1901 S. Maryland Parkway. Burial will follow in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Janet Siegel Christenson

Janet Siegel Christenson, 54, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born July 13, 1944, in New Jersey. A resident for six months, she was a librarian.

She is survived by one sister, Brenda Jacobson of Maryland.

Glenn A. Clayton

Glenn A. Clayton, 74, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospice. He was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Salt Lake City. A resident for 43 years, he was a department manager for REECo.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Karen Brittian of Ogden, Utah; two sons, David Clayton of Guthrie, Okla., and Brad Clayton of Nevada; four brothers, Charles Clayton of Salt Lake City, Ben Clayton and Bill Clayton, both of Sandy, Utah, and Phillip Clayton of Kearns, Utah; and four grandchildren.

Peyton Graham Cooper

Peyton Graham Cooper, 89, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born June 2, 1910, in Waco, Texas. A resident for 27 years, he was a retired architect, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Army Corps of Engineers.

He is survived by his wife, Esther; four daughters, Denise Grace, Carol Cooper, Linda Kirkpatrick and Sherry Ickes, all of Las Vegas; three sons, William Cooper and Michael Cooper, both of Dallas and Patrick Cooper of Paradise, Texas; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Gerald J. D'Amore

Gerald J. D'Amore, 61, of Las Vegas died Sunday. He was born July 4, 1937, in Jersey City, N.J. A resident for four years, he was a retired restaurant owner.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; one daughter, Venus D'Amore of San Francisco; his mother, Jean D'Amore of Las Vegas; one sister, Carol Ann Pesce of Palisades Park, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

Daniel D. Dennick

Daniel D. Dennick, 46, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born March 18, 1953, in Whittier, Calif. A resident for 25 years, he was a plasterer.

He is survived by his companion, Dawn Bagwell of North Las Vegas; one son, Daniel Dennick of Tennessee; one daughter, Lisa Casey of Oceanside, Calif.; his father, Edward Dennick of Arizona; his mother, Patricia Gill, and two sisters, Denise Andrioli and Daphne Gill, all of Mesa, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.

Margaret L. Fairbanks

Margaret L. Fairbanks, 86, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 24, 1912, in Missouri. A resident for 19 years, she was a civil service office manager.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; one son John Matthews; one daughter, Laura Fairbanks; one brother, Fred; one sister, Josephine Spicer; and six grandchildren.

Bert C. Hanson

Bert C. Hanson, 85, of Boulder City died Sunday in Boulder City. He was born Oct. 14, 1913, in Leeds, N.D. A resident for 22 years, he was a retired from farming.

He is survived by his wife, Christine M.; three daughters, Betty Brechler and Marianne Hanson, both of Boulder City, and Linda Johnsrud of North Las Vegas; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Hogen

Dorothy Hogen, 77, of Henderson died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Kimberly, Wis. A resident for six years, she was a retired hospital teacher and a member of the Boulder City Women's Golf Club.

She is survived by her companion, Judith Monzo of Henderson; her stepmother, Betty Hogen of Kimberly; and one sister, Emily Rassmussen of Wisconsin.

Visitation will be 3 p.m. until a 5 p.m. rosary Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Kenneth S. Klapperich

Kenneth S. Klapperich, 68, of Austin, Texas, died May 22 in Austin. He was born Oct. 30, 1930, in Meyer, Iowa. A former Las Vegas resident, he was a construction superintendent.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; four daughters, Karen Murray and Julie McAlpine, both of Las Vegas, Linda Jones of Henderson and Cathy Prewitt of Austin; two sons, Randall Klapperich of Austin and Michael Klapperich of Chesapeake, Va.; four brothers, Herbert Loecher, Elmer Klapperich and Wilbert Klapperich, all of Austin, and Linus Klapperich of Las Vegas; three sisters, Mary Delores Cook of Rochester, Texas, and Darlene Klapperich of Sacramento; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Rose Klein, 87, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 29, 1911, in Russia. A resident for 16 years, she was a homemaker, a member of Ort, Golden Chai, Hadassah and Star.

She is survived by one daughter, Marlee Rogow of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Michael Klingler

Michael Klingler, 65, died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 12, 1933, in Hungary. A resident for 22 years, he was a promotional displayer.

He is survived by his wife, Eva.

Chester P. KuczekChester P. Kuczek, 79, of Henderson died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born May 27, 1920, in Chicago. A resident for seven years, he was a retired city government plumber and a World War II and Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mary C.; and one brother, Frank Kuczak of Henderson.

Services were scheduled at 10 a.m. today in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, handled arrangements.

Edward W. Lantz

Edward W. Lantz, 75, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in North Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 16, 1924. A resident for 48 years, he was a retired plumber/pipefitter, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Pipefitters Union Local 525.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; one daughter, Barbara Lambert, and two sons, Paul Lantz and Michael Lantz, all of Las Vegas; one sister, Frances Hall of Mayfield, Ga.; one brother, Henry Lantz of Houston; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Carlos 'Chuck' Leos

Carlos 'Chuck' Leos, 41, of Henderson died Thursday. He was born Sept. 9, 1957, in California. A resident for 20 years, he was a retail grocery clerk.

He is survived by his wife, Le Anna Parkey-Leos.

Ruth Parker Jefferson Mabins, 50, of Las Vegas died May 31 in a local hospital. She was born July 12, 1948, in Roanoke, Va. A resident for four years, she was a nurse.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest E.; one sister and one brother.

Aretta D. McWhirter

Aretta D. McWhirter, 84, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. She was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Texas. A resident for one year, she was a homemaker.

Virgil Charles New, 60, of Laughlin died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born April 9, 1939, in Modesto, Calif. A resident for three years, he was a an Army sergeant first class and a rifle instructor.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; five sons, Virgil Charles New Jr., Perry New and Kevin New, all of Washington state, Thomas New of Arizona and Jeffrey New of California; four brothers, Kenneth New, Jack New, Terry New and Gary New, all of Washington; seven sisters, Yvonne Arendt and Kelli Nichols, both of Washington, Ronnie Hawkins, Cheryl Wright and Donna Ingram, all of California, Tammy Spagnola of Idaho and Karen Rush of Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren.

Thomas Lon Owings Jr.

Thomas Lon Owings Jr., 69, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospice. He was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Childersburg, Ala. A resident for 38 years, he was an investigator for the fire department and a Korean War Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Pam; two sons, Kenneth Lange of Las Vegas and Richard Owings of Garden Grove, Calif.; one daughter, Brenda Charach of Ukiah, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Charles Pate, 77, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Chicago Heights, Ill. A resident for 15 years, he was a postal clerk and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by four sons, Charles Nathan Pate of Michigan, Ronal Trop Pate of Hawaii, Malcolm John Pate of California and Clyde Pate of Georgia; one daughter, Nora Gullet of California; one brother, John Pate of Las Vegas; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Matthew Pokuta

Matthew Pokuta, 84, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 28, 1914, in Chicago. A resident for nine years, he was a retired deputy sheriff.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; one son, Jerry Pokuto of Venice, Calif.; two daughters, Cindy Lo Cascio of Las Vegas and Susan Pokuta-Fine of Chicago; one brother Bernard Pokuta of Peoria, Ariz.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Edna of Absecon, N.J.; one son, Michael Puggi of Las Vegas; two brothers, Anthony Puggi and John Puggi, both of Hamilton Township, N.J.; one sister, Lucille Loverro of Oakland, Calif.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Gilson L. Reed

Gilson L. Reed, 80, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 19, 1918, in Muskegon, Mich. A resident for 46 years, he was a retired carpenter, worked on Davis Dam, power lines from the dam and at the Nevada Test Site for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Zora; two daughters, Willetta Nelson of Perry, Utah, and Jeanie Gardner of Las Vegas; one son, Chet Reed of Kanab, Utah; three sisters, Darlene and Nancy, both of Muskegon, and Betty of Florida; two brothers, Elmer of Florida and Chet of Muskegon; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled 9-10 a.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Graveside services followed in Palm Memorial Park.

Craig I. Switzer

Craig I. Switzer, 49, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local care center. He was born Dec. 8, 1949, in California. A resident for eight years, he was a utility porter for the Mirage and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his parents, Hobart and Muriel Switzer; and two brothers, Kent and Todd.

Luci Tarantino

Luci Tarantino, 60, of Las Vegas died Thursday. She was born April 19, 1939, in Milwaukee. A resident for 14 years, she was a salad bar attendant in a grocery store.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; three daughters, Gina Tarantino of Hermosa Beach, Calif., Lani Tarantino of Grafton, Wis., and Danielle Mossman of Las Vegas; one sister, Theresa Wilson of Grants Pass, Ore.; and one grandchild.

Ethel M. Thomas

Ethel M. Thomas, 78, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Nov. 21, 1920, in Missouri. A resident for 33 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Anna Wort and Darlene Laswell, both of Las Vegas; three sons, Clarence Thomas and Roy Thomas, both of Las Vegas, and David Thomas of Newburg, Ore.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Lallubhai 'Al' Umeria

Lallubhai "Al" Umeria, 72, of Las Vegas died recently in London. He was born May 17, 1928, in Bodhan, India. A resident for 21 years, he was a retired businessman for motels and apartments.

He is survived by his wife, Kamlaben Jamnavben; two sons, Jaywadan Umeria of London and Pradip Umeria of Las Vegas; two daughters, Kalpna Champaneri and Sangeeta Champaneria, both of Las Vegas; and 11 grandchildren.

A Hindu service and visitation will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at 3754 Spencer St. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

Dennis Wilczewski

Dennis Wilczewski, 55, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 30, 1944, in Hammond, Ind. A resident for five years, he was a retired petroleum truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Denise Schluesselheim of Dallas and Heidi Mirenda of California City, Calif.; two sisters, Lorraine Suda and Carol Grant, both of Hammond; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; two sons, Larry and Lenny; two daughters, Linda and Lori; and one grandchild.
